Insomnia gets worse the more you think about it and the best things are for you to follow these simple (but very effective) rules and avoid sleeping pills (they only make you habitual)

    - don't eat a heavy dinner before bed
    - a warm glass/cup of milk with 1 TSF of honey is good before bed
    - brush your teeth, make sure your bed is comfy and your clothes are too and lie down
    - simple yoga stretches/meditation before bed will keep your mind uncluttered but no vigorous exercises
    - don't think about not being able to sleep
    - get a shoulder massage if you can, works wonders
Best of luck and don't worry, I'm a recovering insomniac myself.

  • Bring down your computer and TV time and see what that leads to. The biggest thing with insomnia imo is that it's either being dreamless or that most of dreaming results in nightmares. Personally I love sleeping because of the dreaming aspect of it. But with internet and TV fulfilling so many dreams we may have, it could be the cause of overloading the part of the brain that regulates dreams. So I'd say cut down on them before getting a bunch of medicines that will generally put you to sleep but won't result in dreaming for the most part.
